Print #2 Line Etching/Exquisite Corpse

Exquisite Corpse: Originated as an old parlor game that involved phrases being written on folded sheets of paper from a number of individuals that when unfolded revealed a subconscious sentence. In the 1920's the surrealist movement adapted the game to their needs, including a visual version that used multiple images of various body sections to create one unified image. Three artists could fold a piece of paper and create "generic guides" that each would follow. They would draw without really thinking, more of a reacting to the paper in front of them, allowing their subconscious self to emerge. The final image would be one that none of the artists, on their own, could have imagined.

For your second print:

    1. Split into the groups of (3) three we have posted.
    2. Using the exercise we did in your groups in class find a way to make the exquisite corpse concept work within the constraints of using Hard Ground Line Etching. How do you work in groups of three to create a print that consists of three plates printed on one piece of paper? How do your register three plates?
    3. Each of you should really push to create a final image for your piece of the game, as if you were turning in that image for a final grade. You should deal with foreground and background, as well as with value and composition.
