1361 Introduction to Intaglio • Fall 2001


Course Description:

An introduction to the investigation of basic intaglio techniques in black and white.

Course Requirements:

-Active participation in and the completion of all assignments.

-Mastery of all techniques introduced during the class.

-A Print Sketchbook/Notebook is required and will be viewed during individual critiques.

-Safe and careful use of all materials, tools, equipment, and the studio itself.

-Clean-up of all materials and artwork before leaving the printshop each day.

-Maintain an adequate supply of necessary materials.

-Be prepared for each class and more importantly be at each class. Don't miss demonstrations!

Lab Hours:

The hours of the studio are posted. You are expected to have a minimum of 6 lab hours outside of class time. This is the time where you will be completing the majority of your assignments!

Critiques:

You are required to be present at all class critiques. You are expected to be able to present yourself and your work in a confident professional way. Your work needs to be presented in a professional manner. We will discuss this more as we approach our first critique.

Attendance:

You are expected to be present at each and every class from 8:40am-11:40pm. If you are absent you are expected to get all notes and assignments from your fellow classmates. In accordance with L.S.U. policy:

"Class attendance is the responsibility of the student. The student is expected to attend all classes. A student who finds it necessary to miss class assumes the responsibility for making up examinations, obtaining lecture notes, and otherwise compensating for what may have been missed."

Grievance Procedures:

If you have grievance about any aspect of the course or the instructor, first come to the instructor. If this fails to resolve the problem you may follow up with the university grievance procedure.

*I am available for counseling or conferences with individual students by appointment. It is the students responsibility to schedule an appointment for assistance and clarification of assignments.

 

 

Grade Policy:

-You will be required to participate daily. If you are not present you can not participate.

-You will be graded on six different projects. Your growth as an artist/printmaker through the course of the semester will also be considered in your final grade. Talent is good but willingness to explore and investigate and self-teach is the goal.

-Grades are designed to give students an indication of their growth as seen from the point of view of the instructor(s).

Each and every project will be graded on the following:

Late projects, handed in after the final deadline, will be penalized by being dropped a full letter grade. Critiqued work, that has been handed in on time and graded can be re-worked and reconsidered for a change of grade.

GRADING:

A=(4.0)=90-100% Superior work above and beyond mastery of technique and material

B=(3.0)=80-90% Good mastery of course material

C=(2.0)=70-80% Adequate mastery of course material

D=(1.0)=60-70% Minimal acceptable achievement

F=(0.0)= 0-59% Failing

X-Acto knife w/ plenty of blades

Citrus based hand cleaner

Brushes - soft china 2" CHEAP brushes for ground & assortment of small brushes

Black enamel spray paint

Pad of Newsprint ( 18" x 24" or larger )

Notebook / Journal / Sketchbook

Basic drawing supplies ( Pencils, erasers, Sharpie Markers, litho crayons, etc. . . )
